The above group was formed in early 1995.  Our goals were and are primarily environmental.  As Lockport Township did not have recycling, one of the first projects that was one of the project that we began  promoting.

Due to the fact that Karen Mancke had previously found, and had been personally using, a garbage company that  picked-up and recycled, she launched the recycling project. .  Approximately 80 homes either began using or were ready to begin using "Workmans" Garbage, McCook, IL.  The price was approx. $8.00 per month versus the approx. $12.00 charge for regular service.  Unfortunately, Workmans was unable to continue to pick-up in the area.

Members have contacted various garbage companies that pick up in the surrounding areas and were told that sometime in the future they would pick-up in the Township.  A tremendous amount of recycling will be neglected between Now and the Future.  We would like to find something Now.  It has been several months since we have had recycling, many people have contacted us asking what can be done.  Several homes have been carrying their recycling into Homer Township or surrounding areas that have a drop location..

We are requesting that the Township and/or the County take the responsibility of:

1.         finding a garbage company that will provide pick-up in Lockport Township,

2.         negotiate pricing so that it will cost the residents less than what they are already paying.

We have exhausted all of our resources to find a garbage recycling company and now would appreciate your resources and involvement.  We believe that promoting and bringing recycling into the community is extremely important for our environment.

Cc. Karen Mancke

AS AN UNINCORPORATED AREA WE SELECT OUR OWN GARBAGE COMPANY.IT IS LUDICROUS THAT WITH OVER 30,000 LOCKPORT TOWNSHIP RESIDENTS THAT WE DO NOT HAVE -  AND SHOULD HAVE  - THE OPTION OF A RECYCLING PROGRAM AVAILABLE TO US . BUT WHERE HAVE THE COUNTY AND TOWNSHIP ADMINISTRATION BEEN OVER THE YEARS WHILE EVERY OTHER CITY AND COUNTY HAS BEEN PROMOTING   RECYCLING.

IT HAS RECENTLY COME TO OUR ATTENTION THAT THERE MAY BE A GARBAGE COMPANY PICKING UP IN THE TOWNSHIP BUT, WHY SHOULD WE PAY MORE FOR RECYCLING WHEN WE HAVE HEARD THAT THERE ARE SCAVENGERS THAT WILL PICK UP RECYCLING FREE.  AS WE HAVE ALREADY PROVEN, IT CAN AND SHOULD BE LESS EXPENSIVE, NOT MORE.  WE HAVE TRIED OUR BEST, NOW LET'S SEE WHAT THE POLITICIANS CAN DO FOR US..
