Winter Solstice
Sunday | December 21, 2025
Occurs at 9:03 AM Central Standard Time (CST)
The winter solstice marks the first day of winter for those of us who live in the Northern Hemisphere.
More Information
At the moment of our winter solstice, the Northern Hemisphere is tilted as far away from the sun as possible. This means the sun is directly above the Tropic of Capricorn in the Southern Hemisphere. Today, we experience the least amount of daylight, or what we call the "shortest day of the year."
